Communications Channels and Vehicles

Public Affairs and Communications manages a variety of tools to communicate to external and internal audiences at the masterbrand level. The masterbrand level simply means that we are communicating about the University as a whole, rather than on a unit (such as a college, school, or institute) level. Listed here are some of these channels and vehicles that individual units can utilize when appropriate to get their messages out to important constituents.

External Audiences

Public Affairs and Communications manages these channels and vehicles that communicate with external audiences about the vision and mission of Notre Dame.

ND.edu

The Notre Dame home page, nd.edu, is the gateway to the University’s website and features a monthly InDepth story. It also prominently displays University news and events and feature stories to highlight Notre Dame’s achievements in research and academics, as well as its faith life and commitment to service. The current ND.edu was launched July 1, 2011.

Notre Dame Magazine

Notre Dame Magazine is a quarterly publication of the University with a circulation of 150,000, most of whom are alumni. Its editorial content reflects the University’s character and serves various purposes: to cover the institution, its people, academic advancements, and campus activities; to report on the lives of alumni and news of the Alumni Association; to offer a continuing education component to those far beyond campus; to strengthen the bonds of the Notre Dame family; and to extend Notre Dame’s reach and lend its voice in the national conversation on important issues of the day. The magazine’s online presence shares this editorial philosophy and seeks to be a more immediate and active venue for this conversation by providing a forum for comment and opinion, a place for personal essays, a connection to campus life, and a site for other features appropriate to this medium.

ITunes U

Notre Dame on iTunes U is another channel of distribution for the University’s audio and video podcasts and, for our students, another way to access recordings of lectures and class-related documents. Notre Dame has two iTunes U sites, both of which were launched in 2009:

  • Public, which shares Notre Dame’s stories with the world
  • Private (NetID login required), which provides an easy way for content to be distributed to internal audiences. Content includes videos, speeches, lectures, and more, allowing visitors to experience research, academics, and campus life at Notre Dame.
